This third edition of the Equality IPA series features a new hop to us, Strata! Strata features pungent notes of tropical fruit, red berries and grapefruit. Strata is the star of this IPA, and is supported by smaller editions of Cryo Citra and Mosaic hops to bring additional citrus and pineapple notes. The brew has a soft malt backbone, low bitterness, and tons of juicy hop characteristics to make for an approachable, “New School” IPA with 40 IBUs.

The logo for this series shows some of our beloved and uniquely different NEBCo characters, stepping out of their usual can art to come together as equals. This release, we wanted to highlight Dr. Martin Luther King’s quote, “If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.”

From a growler purchased at the brewery yesterday.

L: Pours a pale gold with a medium-full haze. A gentle pour produces 2 fingers of fine, white head with ok retention. After a few minutes the head has fallen to a 2 mm ring around the glass with a thin sheet of head filling the interior of the glass. A bit of spotty lacing is left as the beer goes down.

S: I get lots of ripe tropical fruit on the nose...mangoes and pineapple are predominant. I also get a bit of citrus character in the form of grapefruit pith. Accompanying the tropical and citrus characters are light notes of strawberry and red currant along with a distinct herbal/marijuana quality. I also get just the slightest bit of some grainy malt coming through.

T: Prominent strawberry and red currant. I also get pineapple and grapefruit pith along with some light notes of mango and grainy malt. As with the nose there is a distinct marijuana, but also grassy, herbal character. The finish has a nice restrained bitterness.

F: Medium body with medium to medium-high carbonation. The mouthfeel is soft and a tad creamy with medium dryness on the finish. Maybe a bit watery?

O: Another great entry in the Equality series. Keep them coming as I am happy to support increasing the diversity in craft beer through educational funding. Kudos to the team at Nebco for taking action, and a leadership role, in the CT brewing scene in this regard. This is my third or fourth beer with Strata and I've never gotten the prominent red berry notes that I am getting here. Recommended!
