i love these guys, and have long been an avid supporter of their beers, but this is one of their weaker recent offerings, which is a shame, because i was really in the mood for a good and classic english porter when i ordered it. thin and light for the style, and not much head in the shaker pint from the tap, fizzy though like a soda, and more a brown ale hue than a porter one. aroma has some roast, some english yeast, and an almost cola character with some middling malt sweetness, trace toffee and maple there too, but its missing something, maybe not in the nose, but definitely in the taste and feel, namely some body and some depth, its watery in feel, almost runny to me, some bubbles, but uninteresting and unexciting. the flavor doesnt go as low as i like, more of a deep chocolate malt profile without the darker barley in here, and i am missing much of the actual english character of the malt as well. the yeast is right, but thats not enough to save this one for me. it needs some beefing up to hit the mark, even if the flavor is solid, it leaves a bit to be desired, and is well below what i have come to expect from fiction in terms of quality...
