this was by far and away the best beer happening at goldspot. its a coffee porter aged on cocoa nibs, and both of those extra ingredients make a big difference. the coffee is rich and intensely flavored, but not overly bitter, local and fresh. the cocoa adds a ton of earthy bitterness and that mellowness and rawness i like. the base porter is also probably their most successful beer anyway, a nice caramel sweet middle before a dry roasted finish that has some bakers chocolate notes of its own. might be an english yeast type in this, as it has that sort of baked character to it, although the beer is dark enough that a lot of the grain flavors sort of mask the yeast. creamy body, but not a thick or sticky beer, actually remarkably dry in the finish with all the coffee. good carbonation and plenty drinkable on a chilly spring evening. this is the only one of the several beers we had here that either my girlfriend or i said we would go back for. its very tasty.
