Poured a 473ml can into a pint glass. A two finger, fine, off white head on a very dark copper. the head diminishes to a layer that sticks around to the end. Lots of fine lacing.

Caramel malts in the nose. tastes of bread, biscuit and grain. Some toffee emerges. A mild hop finish.

A somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Medium body and carbonation. Overall pretty good flavour for a low ABV beer. Smooth and sessionable.

Rusty apricot, slightly hazed, head settles quickly to a tin ring. Brittle and thin-bodied. Dry hoppiness, a little bit of biscuit. Not the brewery's most memorable effort.

500 mL bottle picked up at the brewery a few weeks ago; served well-chilled.

Pours a hazy amber-copper colour, capped off with two fingers of puffy, off-white froth. It recedes slowly but surely over the next five minutes or so, eventually settling into a foamy cap and collar, accompanied by a few modest swaths of lace. The nose is plain, but inviting enough, I suppose - bready malts and biscuits, with leafy, floral hops and a faint touch of citrusy pith. Slight suggestions of orchard fruits, such as apple and apricot, are also detectable, along with some toffee sweetness.

This is a drinkable English-style pale ale (though it's really more of a bitter/ESB), but not a very remarkable one. It is, however, quite full-flavoured for its low abv. The bready, malty backbone kicks things off smoothly, including some light grainy sweetness, biscuit and brown sugar flavours, which are soon joined by lightly fruity notes of apricot and red apple. Ephemerally faint suggestions of citrus appear toward the tail end, but are overrun by the leafy, somewhat earthy nature of the English hops. The aftertaste winds down with a distinct, lingering leafy, floral bitterness, biscuity malt sweetness, and a mineral note. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation levels that result in a mostly-smooth, somewhat crisp mouthfeel. Reminds me a little of County Durham's Signature Ale.

Final Grade: 3.46, a passable B-. Suffolk Street Session Ale is not one of the more interesting brews I've tried within recent memory. It's a decent example of an English bitter/pale ale, and I could see this one working pretty well as an introductory/gateway craft brew - but I doubt it will leave most hardcore beer geeks feeling impressed, or even satisfied. Its light nature and clean flavour profile are enough to secure this relatively mundane beer a 'serviceable session ale' rating. If push came to shove, there are plenty of other English-style ales I'd pick over this one.
