The colonial era precursor to porters and stout porters. Deep brown, but not quite black, as this beer predates the invention of black malt. Rich, smooth, with distinct coffee like characters.

Pours a dark brown color with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aroma of roasted malts. Taste is strong black coffee with a quite bitter finish.
