i am not sure if this beer always has basil and tangerine in it, or if we were lucky enough to encounter some special edition, but this review is for that version, which is not listed separately here or on their website. these are ambitious adds to a gose (or any beer for that matter), but they are done expertly here, and this was a standout of a fantastic beer session for us. for one, the sourness here is just right, majorly clean so the additives can pop out in the finish, and not too much that you wouldnt want to drink this endlessly. its lactic and citrusy, fading just in time to leave my palate hanging for the tangerine, which is fresh and natural and just a tiny bit sweet, its perfect. the basil is fresh too, oily and italian tasting, dark green, broad leafed, and very ripe and ready, full of its essential goodness. it softens the sourness, adds a growing vegetal element to this that fits right in, and is appropriately enhanced by the salt. the brains behind this one deserve a serious high five, it might be my favorite gose with something added to it that i have had all year, and there have been a whole mess of them at this point. smart use of the extra ingredients, and in an unlikely combination too! we see nowhere else (that i am aware of) in food or drink these two elements together, but they work so well, especially in such a great base beer. this is a total winner!
