an incredibly unique beer, and for me much preferable over the coffee edition, which was a little exposed on the sourness, but here, it seems grounded and balanced a little better, in particular but the almond and the coconut, which add cool basic earthy and sweet elements to the acidity and temper it enough to make this rather drinkable compared with the coffee edition (i did not get to try the base professor black on its own). the cherry aspect of the base beer is almost totally lost here, and all of the adjuncts are muted a bit by the still pervasive sourness, but i do get the almond clearly which is really cool, and its sort of chocolate covered relationship to the cocoa and the vanilla is really nice, albeit quite subtle. the sourness overall here is still higher than i want it to be, but it makes this unique alright. coconut makes it tropical and summery, which is compatible with the lacto pucker, and the vanilla gives it the needed sweetness to be round, none of these are overdone. a cool base beer topped off with some highly agreeable adjuncts, this was one of my favorite beers from our visit to blue owl!
