Our Northern Star Mocha Porter takes the timeless combination of coffee and dark malt flavours to a whole new level. Brewed in collaboration with Leeds' local master coffee roasters North Star, we blend their specialty ground coffee beans into the brew, providing a Yin-Yang harmony between roast bitterness and dulcet hints of hazelnut. On top of this, we add in dark chocolate for a rounded richness and natural milk sugar for a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. The result? A robust yet delicate cold brew that you'd crave from the moment you wake up.

330 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.9%. Nearly black colour, large beige head. Moderately roasty aroma of coffee and chocolate. Flavour mid between dry and sweet, roasty with coffee and chocolate again. Moderately bitter finish.

Can bought at Echarle Huevos, served at home in a snifter glass.
Pours black colour, small brown head with short retention, samll lacing.
Aroma of chocolate, hazelnuts, caramel, cinnamon. I can't detect coffee.
Medium to full body, creamy texture, flat carbonation, sweet finish.
Taste follows the aroma, but with some coffee and spicy.
Pretty good.

Poured from 330ml can dated BBE 19/10/21
Pours engine oil, opaque black with minimal tan head.
Fragrant nose of dark malt, liqourice, treacle, chocolate, esspresso and sweet fruity notes.
Flavour follows closely, coffee hits up front and not in the ingredients??? Nice rye bread and spicy flavours but a little too sweet.
Nice beer, enjoyable but not in the top drawer of the genre.

look: massive light brown coloured bubbly head with good retention, beer is jet black in the glass, no light bleeding through.
smell: nice black bread malt, dark fruit, fig and plum, lot of caramel, coffee, quite sweet, milk chocolate, treacle, maybe a touch metallic.
taste: quite nice, nice black bread malt, roasted toasty flavour, lot of caramel, treacle, molasses, espresso, milk chocolate, nicely sweet, light to medium bitterness on the finish, sweet and smokey flavours linger, quite nice.
feel: light to medium bodied, light carbonation, bit thin, sticky, little bit of bitterness lingering on the back of the tongue, drinkable.
overall: perfectly nice porter, easy drinking, nice flavour, decent stuff

330ml can. Nearly black with a short-lived, tan head and no lacing. Intense, sweet coffee aroma. Rich, very sweet, dark chocolate flavour. Light body, moderate bitterness and a dry, slightly sticky finish. A coffee porter with milk stout characteristics (lactose added). Enjoyed.

Can. Very dark brown. Flat head and no lacing.
Roasted ground coffee aroma.
Sweet version of the aroma opens up upon tasting. Distant toffee present.
Low carbonation. Moderate body.
I didn't take to this one much.

Pours a deep, dark brown coloration with a small, fizzy head. Lovely coffee smell, with hints of chocolate and caramel malt. Taste follows the nose, with a rich coffee flavour and notes of roasted, caramel malt, chocolate and licorice. There's a slightly hoppy, earthy/spicy note reminiscent of cinnamon to this as well. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and a bit more of that earthy/spicy character coming through. Smooth mouthfeel with a rich body for a porter and low carbonation.
Quite a well-balanced Porter with a lovely coffee note supplemented nicely by chocolate and hoppy notes. Quite a rich body for the style.

330ml Can from Good Spirits Co. Wine & Beer (Glasgow):
This one was a fairly enjoyable but somewhat average offering for the style, I liked that it opened up with plenty of chocolate & coffee flavours as I'd expected but it wasn't as full-bodied or complex as I'd have liked sadly. There was a nice sweetness that was enjoyable but it came mainly from the chocolate & there wasn't a whole lot else really; enjoyable but nothing special I'm afraid.
