Nice pina colada imperial black ale. Some pineapple, some coconut and some booze. You've got it all. Bit it's not all that, you also have some chocolate, a lot of it and big hops with citrus mainly. Nice.

CAN
Chocolate black with a pile of lump sepia foam. 4.25
Big dank kronik nose with some charred pineapple. 4
Ash, treacle, rum barrel, sticky herbal greenness, musty grapefruit peel, Ricola, and tropical fruit comeback (mostly dried papaya.) 4.25
A slick nutty-sweet coconut meat finish that goes into lingering burn + bitterness.
Medium+, oily, some warm. 4
Sorachi Ace, Vic Secret, Mosaic, Citra
Pina Colada Black IPA - I wouldn’t expect the Black to be the biggest component, and yet it’s leading with a ton of char. The N Monk blog talks about cold steeping Carafa III but the effect seems quite the opposite. Of the hops, Vic Secret comes through the most - that mint oil effect that the 8 Degrees single hop BIPA had - but there’s some Sorachi rotting lemon, too. Not sure I’d catch the fruit additions if I wasn’t looking for them. The 10% works like 8%, but that ABV also bring expectations. While there’s a bunch going on, much of it is esoteric or doesn’t fit together. Almost like a Fruit IPA-Coconut Porter hybrid, but a failure as one.
A hot mess. 4
