Pours out dark brown. Aggressive pour yields a very rocky mocha colored finger of foam that starts to even out. It looks more creamy as the bubbles come together a little more uniformly. Looks good for a stout toting this percentage.

Nose is roasted malt, mild notes of cocoa powder and some brown sugar. Interestingly, some grape as well. Like a grape soda.

Taste is mild to say the least. Roasted malt is the main act, but even then it doesn't burst forward. That grape soda note comes back ever so slightly on the palate. A little weird, to be honest. The bitterness starts slow then rises sharply and starts to drop. The bitterness is done well here. I wish the flavor matched.

Mouthfeel is just short of fullbodied. Its smooth and light while not feeling watery. ABV doesn't beat you over the head. Texture is good. Very drinkable.

This one is not bad but it needs a kick in the pants. Just...something more. Its a better than solid beer but it needs more oomph. At 12% this is not a session stout, but it kind of tastes like one. This doesn't really hold a candle to other Imperial Stouts of similar percentages. Founders Imperial, Bells Expedition, Alchemist Luscious, Stones Imperial, the list goes on. Oh well.

Poured at 54°. Black with ruby edges with some clarity under fizzy tan head; very little cap retention; thin ring, some soapy lace; residual island of micro dots; no legs. Sweet chocolate malt nose. Chocolate, Baker’s chocolate, dark stone fruit; some roasty bitterness on backend. Medium body; no warmth from 12% abv; moderate minus carbonation; not at all adjuncty - very clean feeling. Overall, great for a UK stout, but pretty tame for US standards; no hint of alcohol; not sweet nor boozy; pleasant light bitter roast linger.

There are many great beers on the homeland here. There are also some great beers overseas and this one comes from England. Death is a rich stout and has a natural chocolate malt body. It is heavily complex and actually has quite a bit of carbonation. It is still smooth through the extra bubble. There was a lot of time and love put into this beer.

Super dark brown tinted black ominous pour with a raging tan head. Roasty chocolate stout with earth, tobacco, dark chocolate, and licorice in smell. Taste is mostly roast and then thin burnt caramel malt with some earth and tobacco, tones. Thin body after initial robust blast that I wished it had carried through. Guess you could say the robust nature of this beer met... death

Near black mahogany color; clear on the pour, opaque in the glass; thick and spongy light khaki hued head; sticky streaks of foam inside the glass. The smell suggests sweet chocolate and licorice; mild roasted grains; tobacco and leather; subliminal booziness nestled deep within the sweetness. Heavy body; velvety; smooth, luxurious residual sugar feel; earthy sweetness throughout offset with a mild presence of alcohol warmth.

A no bullshit kind of imperial stout, balanced and forthright.

Pouring temperature: 50 °F; canning info: BB 01/05/23

16oz can from Tavour. Dark brown pour, instant foamy beige head, shrinks but lingers. Rich chocolatey aroma, sweet, roasty. Taste continues with the sweet, dark chocolate, light roasty bitterness. Thick, creamy smooth. A hint of ABV lurks in the background.

Pours a pitch black coloration with a small, fizzy head. Smell is an intriguing mix of roasted malt and light hoppy notes, with hints of chocolate, licorice, tobacco and a light herbal, grassy character. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by roasted malt and licorice, with hints of dark, bitter chocolate, tobacco and light smoke, but also light hoppy, herbal, grassy notes. Finishes with a medium bitterness and a distinct licorice note. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This has an excellent malt/hop balance if you like a bit of hoppiness in your Stouts. Strong herbal and licorice character with notes of chocolate, tobacco and smoke. Body/mouthfeel is a little light for the ABV, but really not too bad.

Can poured into tulip.

A deep thick black stout with a sizeable pale brown head. Smell of dark chocolate, a little coffee and a whiff of smoke. In addition to this there is some dark cherry on the taste along with a big whack of booze. Medium mouthfeel. Overall pretty decent.
