After the previous two in this series being Watching Crag, a DDH Black IPA and Three Peaks Mountain Race, a Yorkshire farmhouse ale, we wanted to revisit the paler side of the spectrum and brew another light IPA. In terms of ABV we aimed for 3.5%, lower than some of the previous in the series but harnessing everything we learnt from beers such as Striding Edge, the only patrons to make it into core range!

We aimed as ever to make the beer super sessionable yet super flavoursome. The malt bill features oats to add body and a touch of Light Munich malt as it provides a light yet full bodied base for a dry hop that combines the huge flavours of Simcoe, Topaz and Mosaic. We opted to increase the whirlpool addition to double what we usually do for our low ABV beers to add depth of flavour and aroma. Expect upfront citrus, subtle hints of berry and a solid backbone of resinous pine.

Pours a pale golden, straw coloration with a large, foamy head. Smells of doughy, biscuity malt and those typical chalky, cat piss notes of a Session IPA, with some muddled citrus/tropical notes in there somewhere as well. Taste follows the nose, with some doughy, biscuity malt and muddled citrus/tropical hops that have a certain chalky/soapy character to them, with notes of mango, papaya and tangerine also kind of coming through there, as well as a mild herbal dankness. Finishes with a very light bitterness and some chalky/soapy hop notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light bodyand medium carbonation.

Honestly, Session IPAs need to go away. If I want a lighter, refreshing beer, I'll just have a Pale Ale or Berliner Weiße instead. While this is not half bad for the style, it still suffers from the typical style deficiencies and just isn't all that enjoyable overall.
