Collaboration with Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs.

We started with an oat-heavy IPA base and bulked up the body with maltodextrin and added Mosaic hops at whirlpool for soft blueberry and tropical notes.

A true grape soda of course demanded the distinct flavour of the concord variety, and after much hunting (and pleading) we managed to lay our hands on some. In total 1000L of tasty grape juice was added midway through fermentation, backed up with just a touch of blackcurrant to really bring out the purple hue we were looking for! Finally we dry hopped, adding Mosaic once again to boost the subtle berry notes, alongside fresh 2018 Simcoe which is ripe with notes of grapefruit, passion fruit and pine.

Pours an opaque, deep, dark ruby red coloration with a large, lasting, fluffy, pink head. Smell is dominated by grape must, with hints of red berries and citrus and grass. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by sweet'ish, but also slightly tart grape must and blackcurrant, with just a hint of citrus and a certain grassiness as well. Finishes bittersweet, with a very light tartness and some grape must and blackcurrant lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This appears to be Northern Monk's take on the Italian Grape Ale, brewed with grape juicy and backed up by blackcurrant, giving this a certain, lighly vinous character with some well-balanced sweet and tart notes as well as a light bitterness in the finish. The Italian Grape Ale is an odd style that's difficult to rate properly, but all in all this is rather tasty, with a good balance.

Pours a dark reddish purple with soft, pink foam.

Smell is all grape juice with some citrus, red berries and a hint of hops.

Taste is fruity and once again, very much like grape juice, or soda. Some citrus, grassiness and hoppiness along with a mild bitterness is the only real tell that this is in fact an IPA.

Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.

Overall, a very weird beer. It really is grape soda with hints of beer. Tasty, but not for everyone.
