Inspired by Purl Ale, a British household recipe dating back to the early 1800's. This modern interpretation combines tropical US hops with the sweet zest of tangerines.

From a can. Cloudy beer, somewhere between straw coloured and golden. Smells of orange and passion fruit. Sweet start then sherbet and orange. Quite refreshing (would be better in the summer than in late October when you're avoiding turning on the central heating), but tastes a bit too much like a superior orange squash. Feel is on the fizzy side.

Can. Murky straw. Thick frothy head.
Gentle hoppy aroma. Meadow grass, light resin and citrus.
Tastes of marmalade with orange pith. Pencil eraser noticeable.
A somewhat oily feel. Medium body and carbonation.
I prefer some clarity to my beer.

Northern Monk Rapscallion Orange Zest IPA
L4.25 CLassic light golden IPA colour, slight cloud, head decent, implodes slightly after pour
S4.5 Lots of orange, almost like a burnt orange, very deep and inviting.
T4.25 Orange is definitely the main flavour, good level of bitterness.
F4.5 Spot on - excellent carbonation, medium body.
O4.25 This is a really good beer. Maybe would have worked even better 1% lower ABV as a session IPA as the flavours are quite simple - orange + bitterness.

330ml Can from Morrisons Supermarket (£1.95):
A slightly hazy, golden amber with a thick, foamy white head that's about 3cm & holds really well. The nose is zesty & fresh with orange peel, citrus hops & light fruits in the background. The taste is similar with orange & citrus fruits, a few pine hops & a fruity bitterness at the end. It's medium bodied, well-carbonated but the bitterness was a little strong compared with the taste at times.
