First up, a sour IPA inspired by the colours and flavours of rainbow Astro Belts. We started with a simple hazy IPA base of pale barley malt and plenty of oats, backed up with lactose to round out the mouthfeel. We whirlpool hopped with Citra BBC and then fermented with our house IPA yeast strain.
We selected fruits to represent the colours of the candy that we felt worked well together. Leading with the ripe fruit flavours of mango puree and orange juice, we followed up with plenty of tangy raspberry puree, and finally, a touch of zingy lime juice to give a sour accent to the finish.

Pours a pretty dark orange, with a bit of quickly collapsing foam. Smells tart and fruity, bit of grapefruit. Taste is lightly sour, could be more, with plenty of bitter citrus and some tropical mango. Pretty juicy and easy drinkable, but could be tarter

Pours a hazy, reddish orange coloration with a large, foamy head. Smells of sour orange and lime and tangy mango, with just a hint of raspberry and some lactose accents coming through as well. Taste is dominated by sour and zesty citrus notes of grapefruit, orange and lime, with some tangy mango as well and much lighter raspberry and just a hint of lactose, which is thankfully not coming through all that much here. Finishes with a medium acidity and some orange and mango notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This makes for a nice Sour IPA with a good balance of zesty citrus and tangy mango notes, although I would have wished for the raspberry to come through just a little bit more here, which is still noticeable though, while the lactose thankfully stays very much in the background. Overall, an enjoyable Sour IPA that feels rather natural and has got a good sourness to it, without a cloying sweetness from the lactose.
