One of the intriguing aspects of tarot is the juxtaposition of cards’ appearances and their range of interpretations - not everything is as it originally seems. We wanted to recreate this contrast of darkness and light by pairing Amy’s bright, bold, and colourful artwork with an inky, ominously dark Imperial Stout.
Continuing along the Lovers’ theme, taking inspiration from Valentines chocolate boxes presented the opportunity for further contrast - recreating the sensation of bright, sweet, red-fruit soft centres glimmering through the cracks in dark, bittersweet chocolate.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10%. Deep ruby to black colour, moderate to small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and strawberries. The flavour is way too sweet and sticky for me, notes of sweetened coffee, chocolate, lactose, vanilla and strawberries. Unbalanced, won't buy again.

Pours a pitch black coloration with a small, creamy, mocha-colored head. Smells of slightly roasted, caramel malt, strong milk chocolate, and lighter vanilla and strawberry. Taste is an excellent balance of slightly roasted, caramel malt, strong dark and milk chocolate, some red berries, with notes of strawberry and cherry, as well as vanilla and hints of liorice. Finishes with a light sweetness and some caramel malt, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and light/medium carbonation.
While I usually loathe Pastry Stouts, I had a good feeling about this one, mainly because it's a Patron Project, and I certainly was not disappointed. This is exactly how you do a Pastry Stout right, by keeping that sweetness in check with a good balance of roasted and bitter notes. While there is not much bitterness to this, those slight roasted notes and understated vanilla, as well as good split between milk and dark chocolate maintain that balance with the sweet strawberry and lighter cherry accents here, as well as hints of licorice.
