Look: Dark, but not so dark that it is impossible to see through while pouring. The foam here is a pretty solid amount for a lager and dissipates quite easily.
Smell: Lager malts come through very well, as does the smell of coffee. Does not have an acidic nose feel, very aromatic and probably a dark roast coffee, though I do not know.
Taste: The taste for me is a little disappointing given the smell, it almost tastes as if there was something adjusted ever so slightly this would all pop, like the beer equivalent of salt, whether that be literal salts, hops or a different yeast. The beer does taste well lagered.
Feel: Feels a little thin for the coffee flavor that I am getting but it is also 5.5% so there probably wasn't that much sugars to build a ton of body.
Overall: A decent lager, a good sunday beer to do housework or binge listen to records, but not good enough to have just one of IMO.

From a 12 oz bottle labeled “Brew Hub Matte Black - Black Lager brewed with coffee, and clearly marked “5.5%” ABV. The confusion already begins as this beer is listed both on Beer Advocate and on Brew Hub’s site as 5% ABV. Maybe they rounded down? Into a Perfect Pint glass it’s a very dark brown color with a large foamy brown head that fades at a moderate pace leaving a solid ring of lace. Nose of pleasant mid-roasted coffee and some semisweet malt. In the mouth it’s creamy and rich with again that full mid-body coffee flavor, a little bit nutty, with a dry finish. Nice coffee character without going too far in any one direction. Overall good to very good, would have again.

Truly a great beer. Pours well with a coffee and mild licorice aroma that tastes incredibly smooth and is extremely pleasant. As someone who normally hates lagers, this beer truly does it differently and is well worth it in my opinion.
Also, some reviews I've seen seem to mistake this for a porter due to it's color and expect a much fuller body when it's clearly a lager... some people clearly forgot how to read. Overall a fantastic black lager.

16 oz canning with a canning date of 22 October 2018, kept cold until consumption on the 4th of July 2019.
Pours clear dark, reddish-brown; nearly black and nearly opaque in my Belgian snifter.
Both the aroma and the flavor carry a nicely balanced mix of black coffee and Schwarzbier.
Medium+ body with low carbonation that is notably smooth.

Really happy that we picked these up. Slightly sweet, coats the tongue so that the flavor lingers. Roasty with a slight, smooth coffee flavor. I kind of appreciate that it is not an in your face coffee. A smooth, sweet black lager. One of my favorite styles and I like this one.

Very nice coffee flavored lager...
Though it had no head or lacing it was definitely and impenetrably black. The smell was light in coffee and malt with carbonation high at the start and tamped down for the finish. Decent tasting brew that I would gladly partake anytime.

16oz can poured into a pint glass. This is a 5% ABV black lager brewed with coffee. Overall, a decent easy drinking black lager but not something I’d likely pick up again.

Received from son-in-law who asked if I wanted coffee, let’s give it a whirl. Popping the top it a waft of biscuit black licorice and molasses. Pours into a perfect pint with a cascading tan head that recedes quickly. Color is coffee, jejeje. Taste is neither sweet nor bitter a bit of licorice with a coffee note at the end. Kind of uneventful and much blander than I expected. No coffee belt and seems to lack in body. I’ll stick with the porters. Not a keeper at the price point.

The pour and look is that of a heavy stout. The taste is smooth and almost thin. Not hoppy but with the taste of coffee in it.
