I'm not normally a fan of sour stouts but this nose is pretty unique. Chocolate covered cherries with hints of cocoa powder, vinegar and fudge. Its missing that acrid smokiness that usually turns me off. Aromatic too. Beer opens chocolate, vinegar and lactose. This one's intensely tart at the beginning but oak and fruit notes come forward as I sip and sip. Cherry, raspberry and other pulpy red fruit mixed with notes of cocoa powder and chocolate. Very complex but the flavor combination just doesn't do it for me. Beer is light bodied with ample carbonation. Prickly and coarse in the mouth and goes down aggressive with a dry, puckering finish.
I can tell that this is very well made beer. The flavor is there, the complexity is there and the tartness and sweetness strike a pleasant balance. Nevertheless, this style just doesn't do it for me. I'd certainly recommend this though.
