We’re ushering in Year 6 of FSB, our shape-shifting annual imperial stout. This year we’re doing 3 installments of FSB, all of which are collaborations with Austin Jevne of Forager Brewery. Austin is the local pastry master, so you know you’re in for a treat in more ways than one. Bring your sweet tooth for FSB Pt. 2, a Salted Caramel Pastry Stout (our first-ever beer with a dairy product in it!).

Pours a thick black color with a tan head. Smell was caramel roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is chocolate complimented its caramel, vanilla some dark fruits and roasted malts. A full mouth feel and is a sipper.

16 oz can, canned 11/1/19, poured into Crane snifter.
Has a really thick viscous black color with a creamy beige head of 1/2 finger, receding to a fingernail.
Aroma is not very forthcoming, but does have hints of salt, caramel, coffee, and clay.
Flavor is pretty decent, brings a good dose of coffee, salted caramel, vanilla, and hot fudge. There's also some clay in there as well which brings it down a bit. It's not overly sweet which is nice.
Feel is thick and robust, creamy, pretty heavily carbonated, a moderate dose of alcohol heat, roasted and hot finish.
Overall an enjoyable imperial dessert stout. Not one of the best, but this was fun.

16oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, brown head of foam. It smelled of dark chocolate, sweet caramel and toffee. Lots of caramel taste with chocolate and toffee.

16oz can. Date stamp on can bottom is unreadable.
Black color body. Thin finger of tan head settles back to scattered islands and ring. Leaves an extensive pattern of small lacing spots.
Aroma of dark roasted malts (black licorice and anise), slight vanilla, and slight caramel.
Taste is slick with chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. Quite sweet and without bitterness (other than what the dark roasted malts express). There also are the notes of dark fruit, anise, and black licorice (although these are shadowy and not prominent).
Thicker mouth feel, with a sticky texture. Good carbonation.
The higher ABV% is well hidden, but rapid ingestion is not encouraged here. This is a sipping beer, suited quite well for pairing with a dark chocolate dessert.

Inky black body topped with a thin yet lasting light tan head. Warm and inviting aroma; caramel; some grain char and chocolate. The taste follows along and amplifies the aroma; milk chocolate; fine undercurrent of booze; a mild touch of bitterness. Heavy body; thick and chewy; massive presence of residual sugars; sweet yet with alcohol warmth.
Rich and decadent are apt descriptors for this beer. The high ABV is evident yet not overwhelming. A big, bad, cooperative effort...
