Look is thick, like an imperial stout, but brown instead of black. It is cloudy and opaque, like looking at some kind of brown fruit juice. No head, just the lightest fizz when I poured it from the bomber.
Smell is strong dark fruits, plums and figs. I can also pick up the bourbon, but not as strong.
Taste matches the smell more than I would expect, or like. It seems like I am drinking juice squeezed from dried fruit, with bourbon added. Some molasses flavor also. It’s been in my beer fridge for a year, so the flavors may have smoothed and melded a bit. They don’t stand out as distinctly as I would like.
Feel is thick and smooth, but lacking carbonation. Maybe a bit heavy.
Overall, an okay barley wine.

On tap. Tan head with some lace. Dark brown color.
This is very complex and enjoyable. You get both the bourbon barrels and the wine barrels showing. Whiskey, oak, vanilla with an undertone of red grapes and dark fruits. Molasses, caramel, and chocolate. Smooth, warming, full bodied, and slightly rich. The 16.5% is no where to be found. Has a bit of figs and brown sugar mixed in.
This was very well done.
