A pale ale in an IPA world, brewed in collaboration with Burial Beer (Asheville, NC) and Yakima Chief Hops. Heavily featuring HBC 630, an experimental hop variety that brings notes of berries, peaches, and a nebulous “candy” aromatic. Paired with an American classic in Simcoe Cryo, this beer pops with fruity notes, while managing to maintain the crisp, snappy sensibility that only pale ales can truly embody.

I was hoping the light in dark places was going to be the light at the end of the hazy train tunnel but alas, this is not that light. Citrus juice and bitter rind aroma and flavor. A little bit of dankness for character but otherwise another unremarkable hazy.

Pours pale gold and hazy. A limited head, but the lacing is nice.
Aromas of grass, cucumber, lemon, and grapefruit.
Mildly sweet pale malt on the tip of the tongue (cucumber/melon) gives way to similarly mild grassy and tart notes in the second half of the brew before a bit more intense hop bitterness (citrus pith) arrives at the finish. Delicate and nicely balanced.
Medium light bodied and drying. Nicely carbonated but smooth.
A well done brew. APAs are tough to get to the next level on flavor without pushing toward the APA/IPA boldness line. This is well-restrained and balanced. The only real knock, if it is one, is the citrus rind starts to take over a bit as the brew warms.
