A Cascadian dark ale impenetrable in its blackness, ascendant in its hop aroma. It's extremely metal.

Dark brown pour, one finger beige foamy head, streaky lacing. Light roasty aroma, mild sweetness, chocolate, coffee. Taste brings some roasty bitterness, coffee, burnt toast. Creamy feel.

16 oz can dated Sept 25, 2023 into a nonic pint glass.
L: SRM 40 Pours black with a 1" puffy khaki head, light carbonation, 3 pours to empty can, head has very good retention and resembles a dormant volcano crater, light sticky spotty lacing.
S: Caramelized malts, lightly floral, berries, fruity overall.
T: Quick caramelized sweet malts, toasted grains, bitter hops, fruity with very light background tannins. I taste Centennial hops, berries, grapefruit, melon rind, resin and a touch of wheat. Gently robust & lightly full-flavored with a moderately long resinous linger.
F: Brisk medium-bodied feel with a lofty center and a long finish that is fairly drying.
O: An elegant, very pleasant tasting, floral and easy drinking beer that is a tiny bit hop-forward. The caramelized malt notes are right in step with its handsomely exotic hop tastes. It has a firm stance and is excellent in its style.

A - Pours an opaque black body, with a substantial tan head that fades to persistent but uneven cap, and extensive fine lacing.
S - Bright nose pine and citrus, roasted smokiness, and a bitter chocolate note unpinning the fruit.
T - Superb open of malty citrus, toasted bread, bittersweet chocolate, smoky umami and mild resin notes. Finish is pretty clean, all told, but with some lingering bitterness.
M - Soft carbonation, moderate weight, and slow build resin on the tongue.
O - Well dialed in black IPA that delivers. Tasty and layered. And definitely metal.

Appearance: Pours a very dark, nearly black color with a strong tan head. SRM of 20. (4.00)
Aroma: Moderate aromas of roasted black, malt, chocolate, some subtle hints of citrus and fruit. Some citrus and bread underneath. With some roasted pine. (3.75)
Flavor: Flavors of roasted black milk, upfront. There’s hints of orange, citrus and pine. This mixes with a black mountain coffee, roasted us. Bitter, pine, and roast on the finish. (4.00)
Feel: Medium body, strong, carbonation, finishes, clean, bitter and relatively dry. (4.25)
Compared to Sierra Nevada Celebration 11/2023: Pours darker. Stronger aromas. More bitter and black roast. More pine. Less smooth.
Overall: Roast, pine, and bitterness. Sort of like a milder Arrogant Bastard. Great for a WCIPA. Dark, roasty, bitter, yet clean. Overall, Eternal Shrug I think it's a fantastically bitter IPA. (Rating: 4.12)

Canned 9/30/22; drank 12/29/22 @ the Yarchives.
Black/brown appearance.
A rough pour yielded a nice tan head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lace.
Medium roast coffee bean & orange citrus notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Medium roast coffee bean & orange citrus flavors; the usual black IPA vibe.
Good, not great.
