We love Pilsners. You might know that by now. We also love the diversity you can find inside what feels like such a tight little beer style. You’ve got big malty Czech-style beers, you’ve got hoppy AF Northern German ones, you’ve got corn-heavy “pre-prohibition” American ones—the list goes on. Strong Friend Moves sits in what we’d call the extra crispy category of Pilsners: hoppy enough to have good snap, but not enough to make it sit heavy on the palate. Crisp as the day is long, but without bringing corn into the mix. Balanced in all things, but biased towards repeatability. Crispy! Crackery malt character, hint of sulfur, herbal hops.

Aroma is hops and bread/malts/grains/hint of doughy sweetness. The flavor is mild fruit, citrus and a huge beery malt/piney hop finish. Kind of reminded me of a Euro Pilsner with piney hops.

I had this on draft 7/28/23 @ BarleyPop.
See thorough dull yellow appearance.
Small white head; decent lacing remained.
Fresh corn, mild lemon & faint flower notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Fresh corn & mild lemon flavors up front; faint flower notes on the finish.
A bit dry, but enjoyable. I'd have another...

Appearance: Pours a slightly clouded (80% clarity) light and bright golden color with a strong white head. (4.00)
Aroma: Strong aromas of lemongrass, flower, pale bread malts. (4.00)
Flavor: Strong flavors of lemongrass, lemon flower, then pale bread malts and yeast. Subtle to minimal grassy sulfur notes, (much more present on my second review). (4.25)
Feel: Medium-bodied, strong carbonation. A lingering bitterness. (4.00)
Compared to Fair State Pilsner 7/2023: Pours similar, slightly larger head. Milder aromas. More lemongrass. Less citrus. Slightly more grassy and earthy notes. Slightly crispier. Very similar.
7/2023: Pours similar. Milder aromas. More grassy earthy hop aromas and flavors. Less lemon, bread, yeast. Similar bitterness. Slightly cleaner.
5/2024: Pours identical, stronger aromas. More smooth lemon citrus. Less floral and bitter yeast. Similar flavors, but not quite as bitter. Very similar.
Compared to Toppling Goliath Pils 4/2024: Pours identical, similar aromas. More crisp noble nops and pale malts. Less yeasty and bready. Similar bitterness and flavor. Lighte and cleaner.
to Summit Twin Pils 4/2024: Pours similar, slightly darker, milder head. Stronger aromas. More lemon citrus and bread malts. Less bitter yeast. More smooth.
to Bad Weather Pils 4/2024: Pours lighter, stronger head. Milder aromas. More flowery smooth yeast. Less sweet and bitter lemon. Drier.
to Equilibrium South St Pils 5/2024: Pours similar. More soft bready flavors. Less orange.
to Surly Hell 5/2024: Pours similar. More crisp yeast and dry floral notes. Less sweet lemonflower and pale malt. Drier and cleaner.
to Fair State Side Pull 6/2024: Pours similar, stronger head. Milder aromas. Less lemon citrus. More smooth bread malt.
Overall: Another good Pilsner from Fair State. Crisp, clean, and slightly more tamed and grassy. Sort of reminds of their Super Clear release from last year. It's light a Fair State Pils, Light version, yet still has that grassy and hop notes. A fantastic summery Pils (Rating: 4.15)
