Bourbon Barrel Aged Pumpkin Spice Latte Imperial Stout.
This fall we decided to do something a little different with a couple of our Sleepy Bear barrels. We embraced our inner basic-ness and infused cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and clove to quench our hidden pumpkin spiced latte cravings. Yes you read that right, we added pumpkin spice and all things nice to create a special one-off Barrel Aged Sleepy Bear – Welcome to the world, Basic Bear. Kick back, throw on some sweat pants and relax around a campfire with your best of friends and this rich, chocolaty, pumpkiny treat!

Pours dark, shiny black color. Completely opaque. Thin mocha colored head forms on the beer when it is poured, then quickly dissipates. Aroma has notes of pumpkin spice(s), pumpkin pie, vanilla, and cinnamon. Taste follows from that with notes of pumpkin spice, cinnamon, vanilla, and chocolate. The pumpkin spice is there, the underlying stout has some nice character, but the barrel on this is really hard to find any semblance of. Feel is medium bodied for a stout. Nice balanced carbonation. Overall its an interesting stout. I like the PSL flavors, but I am left wanting much more on the barrel front.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Released 10/2021, had 11/6/21.
Pours near black and opaque, with a quarter inch foamy head and light foamy lacing. Aromas of nutmeg, allspice, chocolate, vanilla, clove, faint cinnamon, light bourbon as it warms. The flavors are mostly the same- nutmeg, allspice, bourbon- more than the nose, vanilla, clove, chocolate, a little cinnamon when warmed. Smooth, a very good full body, appropriately carbonated.
The spices absolutely dominate, but the base manages to keep things from getting too out of hand. This really works, overall. Wish the barrels would have been a little more prominent, but this was very enjoyable.
