$ 7.00/16 oz shaker ($ 0.438/oz) at brewery. Consumed 8 Sep 18, reviewed from notes 9/24/18.
Appearance – 3.5.
Body – Dark brown/black, opaque. Dark brown at the edge, the only place light penetrates.
Head – None. Filled by bartender to a complete 16 oz pour. Tan ring, no cap.
Lacing – None.
First pour – N/A
Aroma – 4.25 – A delightful mixture of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt.
Flavor – 4.75 – Follows the nose – coffee, chocolate, roasted malt – with some vanilla and just a hint of alcohol (9 % ABV). No diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 4.5 – Full, creamy, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4.5 – Much as I enjoy the appearance of a well-made beer, I enjoy the full glass more, so the extra volume at the expense of the head is a no-brainer. The combination of aromas is pleasing and, more importantly, prepares you for the excellent flavor. The flavors are well-balanced and reinforce each other, stimulating the taste buds synergistically. Even the slight alcohol flavor integrates well. Overall, the best brew I’ve had in this establishment and one of the best brews I’ve ever had.

Draft at the brewery.
Dark brownish black, thin layer of tan foam, light spotty lace. Aromas of carob and bakers chocolate.
Taste was flavorful and chocolatey, some roast and tootsie roll notes. Medium bodied, a touch low on carbonation. Overall this was the best beer I tried at Ninja Moose/Levi Garrison & Sons.
