Our blonde barleywine is made with a huge but simple malt bill that pairs with El Dorado, Sorachi Ace, and Lemon Drop hops resulting in flavors of apricots, peaches, and citrus. This version was aged in Hillock Rye barrels for 9.5 months.

Looks like the bourbon-barrel aged version has been created whereas rye whiskey barrel-aged blonde hasn't been. Created, but unable to add notes - "Our Blonde Barleywine is made with a huge but simple malt bill that pairs with El Dorado, Sorachi Ace, and Lemon Drop hops resulting in flavors of apricots, peaches, and citrus. This version was aged in Hillock Rye barrels for 9.5 months."

Took a stroll through ME and swung by Barreled Souls in Saco. They blew me away with their beers at the latest Micro Brewfest so I was excited to get my hands on a few bottles. Showed up for the Big Bang release but lucked into a couple of these leftover beauties. The bottle looks and feels great - cool artwork, beautiful bottle shape with a nice heft and feel. Outstanding presentation even before the bottle is poured. I definitely appreciate the artistry.

Sandy blonde (ehu!) hue with a thin head that fades quickly. Light in color, it's big in aroma and taste. Huge oak profile with notes of caramel, vanilla, toasted coconut and a peppery spiciness that's faint but perceptible. Absurdly smooth and so easy to drink. The alcohol heat compliments that rye whiskey-kick but does nothing to get in the way of enjoying each sip. It's a big beer that's surprisingly mellow - not too much of a hop-kick, easy on the alcohol heat and nowhere near cloying. I have to think this is right up there with any peers' offerings in construction and execution. This is a special brewery.
