2018 version. 10.8% ABV. Drank 12/2023. Ok, may have been past its prime but may also just be a mediocre beer.

Excellent head production; decent retention.
Lovely, smooth, inviting aroma, with notes of chocolate, pistachio, vanilla, brown sugar, molasses, caramel, and toffee. Booze is noticeable on the nose, but not by much.
Presents almost identically on the palate, along with a neutral woody edge mid sip that yields to a remarkably rich finish. First third features honeycomb, caramel, and chocolate, yielding to a bit of the pistachio nuttiness and oak. Back third notes are all chocolate (which isn't even added), pistachio, and vanilla. Incredibly rich chocolate base from the malt, semi-sweet and powdery and bitter all at the same time; remarkably rich and utterly delicious.
Thick and chewy on the palate, but there is a bit of fizz both up front and about the gums.

Bit of a gusher. Pours a plum-tinted dark mahogany with a thin dark khaki head that quickly fizzes away to nothing.
Dark malts, a touch of roast, chocolate, lots of vanilla and a little nut in the nose.
Dark malts shine again in the taste: plum, cola, bitter chocolate, caramel, vanilla and pistachios all make appearances with a moderately strong alcohol bite.
Thick, chewy feel with just enough carbonation.
Very tasty. The vanilla, barrel and base work great together and the pistachio adds some distinctive nutty character without being heavy handed.

Bottled 9/18/2018. Bottle 1519/2000. Pours one shade shy of black with a one inch, mocha-colored, fizzy head that gradually dissipates. Legs are weak. Nose expresses dark cocoa and a hint of pistachio. Taste consistent with nose. A hint of vanilla follows that pistachio; however, some notes of oxidation also hit towards the back. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body, albeit a little thin, with a carbonation shy of lively. Overall, a decent imperial stout; however, I think it may be on the decline.
