Our take on a Scottish “shilling” ale. Light bodied, low ABV beer with rich malt flavors of caramel and fresh baked bread.

Pours a deep ruby color - heavily tinted brown, but the net effect is a deep red. Crystal clear. Enormous, rocky tan head that dissappears after a few minutes leaving a little ring and a within continent across the top.

The smell is malt candy. Bready, roasty, and strong caramel leaning toward toffee. A bit earthy and an indistinct smell of chocolate? Yep...just a trace.

The taste follows exactly. It's a low ABV malty treat. There's just a touch of sweetness and there's a little spice added to the earthiness. Bready with toffee and just the smallest tease of chocolate. Late in the taste I get a slight tang that could be rye or maybe peat or smoke.

Bright, mildly carbonated almost but not quite medium bodied. Slick and smooth, exceptionally easy drinking.

Lots of flavor, low ABV, easy going down, straightforward. Clean and well-executed in my opinion. Have to dampen that enthusiasm when it comes to the numbers, but it seems on target for the style.

Brown with light shining through easily. Long lasting but smaller head. Multiple spots on the glass.

Sweeter brown toast aroma.

The body is watery, a surprise for a nitro pour. The abv is so low I would be inclined to call this a weaker brown ale. Shorter toasty aftertaste.

Sampling a 16 oz can poured at cellar temp into my .5L dimple mug. Picked up these cans at the brewery a few weeks ago. No date stamping on the can.
The beer pours a dark mahogany to almost stout like brown color. A soft fluffy beige head of 3.5 cm foams up and fades gradually to a wispy island and a very thin edge layer.
Aroma is malty with roasted notes and caramel, but also some hints of dark chocolate in there too. There is a hint of earthy hops in the background of the nose, but malts are the forefront.
First sip reveals a light to medium body, with fine and gentle carbonation. The texture is smooth and this beer drinks easy.
Flavor is roasted malt and some dark chocolate also. Not really sweet chocolate. No real hop character either, and the booze is hidden as expected.
Nice easy drinking malt forward beer. Glad I have a few more of these in the cellar!

Taste is nice with a mild peaty flavor, but has a thin mouth feel for me. Little more bitter/hop to the front than I would want in a Scottish Ale as I don't get a lot of malt. A little coffee note at the end is kind of nice. I could drink a couple of pints of this on a nice cool night.
