Sampling a 500 ml bottle at cellar temp poured into my snifter. Bottled 2/5/2020 after 13 months and 9 days in a barrel.
The beer pours jet black with no light passing through my glass. A fluffy tan head of 2 cm foams up with the pour and slowly recedes but remains a sturdy surface layer throughout the sampling.
The aroma is evident on the popped cap with deep rich chocolate notes and some dark red grape notes with a little general dark fruit, raisins, and also a bit of brown sugar and molasses hits. Slight booze notes also float out of my glass, but no hop presence is here to speak of at all.
First sip reveals a creamy textured beer with very soft and mild carbonation. Fairly big body and a coating film on my palate after each mouthful and swallow. The physical traits on this one hit all the highpoints of what an imperial stout should be in my opinion.
The flavor is similar to the nose, with dark chocolate, some molasses and brown sugar coming together. I also get roasted malt notes , but the sweeter flavors dominate. SOme dark fruit comes through towards the finish with red grape, plum notes mixing. Finally there is a dose of warming booze that lingers on my palate after I swallow.
Big sipping imperial stout with good physical traits and complex flavor profile. Im glad to have this one and glad to be in the bottle society!
