Sampling a cellar temp bottle that has been in my stash since I picked it up at the brewery October 2020. Beer was bottled on 5/8/2020.
Pouring into my snifter the beer exhibits a dark black coffee color with dense creamy beige head of about 1 CM. This foam fades slowly and remains as a sturdy edge layering and wispy surface coating throughout the sampling. I do notice a bit of trub and sediment at the very end of the pour and leave just a drizzle of beer left in the bottom of the bottle.
Aroma is what you would expect from a PB and Jam imperial stout. I get some chocolate milk and brown sugar, also a good dose of vanilla (from marshmallows prob) and a nutty roasted nut scent plus a bit of sweet strawberry jam note. No hops and not boozy. This nose delivers on what is in the beer and I find it enjoyable.
First sip reveals the Barreled Souls trademark soft creamy texture with mild gentle rolling carbonation. Body is medium to slightly thick, but doesnt feel heavy, if that makes sense.
Flavor is dark chocolate and some brown sugar notes, I get a little cinnamon note and some molassess too. The peanut flavor shows up but only for a second, but the strawberry jam lingers long after the swallow. Again, no hint of the booze and no hop presence that I can detect. This is another win for Barreled Souls! The jam and peanut butter work really well and I enjoy the mix of flavors with each mouthful.
Glad to have tried this bottle from one of my favorite breweries.

Poured into fluted snifter, opaque creamy black brew with a tan foamy head. Head settles slowly into floating islands and thin collar.
Aroma is full of sweet strawberry jam, peanuts and roasty malts.
The jam and PB mix perfectly with this base brew. They both add to the flavor instead of detracting, confusing, or making things unbalanced. Sweet jammy strawberry, peanut and peanut butter, light graham cracker spiciness and roasted marshmallow meld well with the roasted malts and bittersweet chocolate of the base imperial stout.
Moderate carbonation, fits nicely with the stout and just over medium body.
Overall a great mix. The PB and J doesn't overpower anything. Not too sweet. Nice balance.
