Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle picked up from the brewery recently. Pouring the beer into my snifter.
the beer pours a clear chestnut color with some ruby highlights when I hold up to the lightsource. a frothy beige head of about 1 cm foams up and remains as a surface layer during my sampling. The foam is fed by very active streams of carbonation rising towards the surface. This carbonation creates a mini geyser rippling effect on the surface. Very active bubbles, basically wiggling around the surface of my beer. Very interesting visuals.
The aroma is boozy and fruity and fairly robust. even the bottlecap smells of bourbon. I get some bourbon and brown sugar mixing with plums and fig notes and a bit of a toffee note as well. Some oak notes are mixed in the aroma but I dont really get any hops. Also no fusol notes even with this higher ABV.
First sip reveals a medium body with slightly sticky texture and very fine fizzy carbonation.
Flavor is kind of what I expect from the nose.
I get a lot of sweet malt notes, with toffee, brown sugar and some light vanilla up front. Definitely sweeter start then some dark fruit with more fig here, kinda twangy flavor. Some dark chocolate shows up and then a good dose of bourbon carries to the finish. Oh and there is the booze too, pretty warm down my throat after each swallow.
This is a sipping b-wine, which is just perfect for a cool Nov evening. It is on the sweeter side but I find that appealing and am glad to have tried this beer. Even more glad for the additional boxes of bottles I picked up recently from the brewery!
