Im pouring a cellar temp 16 oz can into my snifter. I picked up the beer at the brewery as part of my Bottle Society purchases. Proceeds from the sale of this beer were donated to the ACLU. Very nice move by the folks at Barreled Souls!
The beer has been in my cellar since the purchase.
Pouring the beer is a dark coffee color with almost no light passing through the glass when I hold it up to the light. A creamy tan head of about .5 cm foams up and fades to nothing by about halfway through the sampling.
The aroma is huge with bourbon and caramel, with a bit of brown sugar too. I dont get any coffee notes and hops are absent too. The bourbon scents are the sweeter notes not any hot or boozy scent really.
First sip reveals a velvety smooth texture, which seems to be the trademark for Barreled Souls. Very fine and slightly tingly carbonation, soft and easy drinking beer.
The flavor is what I expected after the nose. I get a bit of chocolate and some caramel and then a good hit of bourbon and here there is more than sweet bourbon, with a bit of boozy heat and some of that black peppery bite that I attribute to alcohol. Dont get any hop presence and the coffee doesnt seem to show up in my opinion.
This is a really solid beer and a tribute to an amazing woman who gave so much to our Nation. RIP RBG....
