Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into a snifter. Picked up at the brewery last weekend, almost 1 year after bottling. oops. Gotta get up to Barreled Souls more frequently!
The beer pours a rich cola brown with dense creamy head of 4 cm. Almost overtops my glass, but does fade pretty quickly to a sturdy surface covering. I do get dense lattice when I swirl my glass.
Aroma is dark chocolate, roasted malt notes some brown sugar and a bit of candied peanut butter note. Not boozy at all and no hop character either.
First sip reveals a smooth texture and soft, gentle carbonation that is almost non existent. Body is medium and the beer drinks pretty easy overall.
Flavor is rich malt with some dark chocolate, sweet chocolate, hints of roasted notes and some brown sugar. I get a bit of peanut butter towards the swallow and a bit of sweetness lingers. Never really any booze and again hops dont show up.
I suspect the peanut butter notes were bolder when first bottled, but this is still a solid imperial stout.

Coal black body, opaque; one-finger thick light khaki colored head, creamy. Lightly charred grain aroma infused with caramel and cocoa; coffee; boozy. Milk chocolate and fudge taste; bourbon; anise. Heavy body; silky; slippery residual sugar feel; mild to moderate alcohol heat tempers the sweetness.

The bottle label lists Butterfingers and marshmallows as part of the ingredients. I can sense that. The beer brings a rich sweetness and lushes mouthfeel to the palate. Big, boozy, and beautiful.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like creamy peanut butter, milk chocolate candy, and roasted malt.

This could have been super, super sweet, but it managed to be somewhat balanced. It's fairly roasty underneath the Butterfingers and marshmallow, and there's only just a slight hint of marshmallow anway. It tastes more like peanuts and chocolate than actual Butterfingers, which is also OK in my book.

This is medium bodied, cremay, and quite drinkable, with very little booziness to it.

This could have been a saccharine nightmare, but it ended up being quite tasty.

Drank from a 1 pt. .9 fl oz bottle purchased at Barreled Souls Brewing Company, Saco, ME
Bottle Date 10/20/2021
Bottle # 728/1500
Served in a tulip

Big thanks to hopley for hooking me up with this bottle.

The beer poured near pitch black but much thinner than anticipated. A frothy, finger-tall, saddle brown head topped the liquid and quickly dropped to frothy swirls and a thick, lasting collar. After each of the first few sips, a wall of drippy lacing trickled down the front of the glass.

Nutty notes came through big time in the aroma initially. Lots of caramel and toffee as well. The Butterfinger presence was definitely apparent. Sweet but not excessively so for the style. There was a subtle oxidative quality as well. Roasted malts were also noticeable. Touch of dark chocolate. Bit of vanilla too. As the beer sat, the nutty notes dissipated and some booziness appeared.

The flavor profile was similar to the nose. Nutty and rich. Sweet and toffee-like up front. Again, the Butterfinger notes were quite apparent. The beer was anchored by a stiff roasted malt backbone. Some dark chocolate came through in the center. The roastiness intensified on the back end and the finish. Bit of cardboard-like oxidation too, but this soon dissipated. Like in the nose, the nuttiness subsided as the beer warmed.

The mouthfeel was enjoyable but quite thin for the style. Medium-light bodied and rather fluffy. The liquid contained a tightly beaded, moderate effervescence that turned creamy and slick on the palate.

I am typically a fan of pasty stouts, even those which many consider to be excessively kitschy and/or sweet, but Barreled Souls’s Eat My Stout came across as somewhat artificial and was lacking in body. Looking at reviewers’ notes, it seems that this year’s vintage unfortunately paled in comparison to the previous one.
