Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. Picked up at the brewery in November. THe beer was bottled 8/5/2020.
The beer pours jet black color and no light passes through my glass. A thin dense tan head foams up 1 cm and fades to the thinnest of edging possible.
The aroma is some dark chocolate notes sweet brown sugary hits and of course blueberry fruitiness, but real blueberry not an artificial syrupy scent. No hops here and not any booze hints either.
First sip reveals a medium body with very smooth texture and very fine gentle carbonation, spacious and soft. Seems to be a Barreled Souls calling card.
Flavor is sweet with some brown sugar and milk chocolate mixing together. A little bit blueberry comes through but not a lot. There is some lingering blueberry on the finish too.
THe flavor profile is more mild than I anticipated, its enjoyable, but definitely not as robust or complex as I had hoped when I opened the bottle. No hops here and the booze is hidden making for an easy drinking experience.
This is a good beer, but Im a little disappointed in the flavor profile in general. Still glad I tried this one, not my favorite from a great brewery.
