Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into my snifter. Bottled over a year ago on July 2 , 2021. Picked up at the brewery in October 2021 and been in my cellar since then. Seems time to get to this one.
The beer pours a rich dark coffee color with a dense creamy khaki color head of almost 3 cm foaming up from the pour. This foam fades slowly to a sturdy edge layer and a large island on the surface. Very dense lattice clings to the glass during swirls.
Aroma is rich fudge notes and some dark chocolate with a bit of brown sugar too. No hint of hops and no hint of ABV.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture, but still a little sticky on my lips. Carbonation is fine and tingly and adds a little umph to the physicality of this beer.
Flavor is chocolate, and chocolate. I get some dark chocolate, almost bakers level quality, then fudge and some hot cocoa powder and rich hershey kisses. This beer tastes like all of the chocolate. There is also so lingering sweetness that reminds me of a hot cocoa, but sweeter. Tastes kind of dry if that makes any sense.
The sweetness gets to be a little much and Im not sure I love this one, its just a little too much sweet chocolate for me. I dont usually get turned away by this, but too much here in my opinion.
This one is a miss for me, but if you really like sweet and sugary beers, you may like it.
