Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into my snifter. Picked up at the brewery in October 2021, bottled on date of 12/17/2020. THe downside of the bottle society membership, back log of big imperial stouts!
the beer pours a rich cola brown color from the bottle and sits pitch black in my glass with no light penetrating the liquid. A creamy tan head of about 1 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy edge layer that sticks around throughout the sampling. There are apparently several active streams of carbonation rising as some wispy bubbles are spinning around on the surface.
Aroma is dark chocolate fudge and some roasted malts maybe some faint hints of the coconut. It may have faded over time. I dont get any hops and no hint of the ABV either.
First sip reveals a fairly thick body with soft spacious carbonation. The texture is thick and sticky and coats my palate with each sip.
Flavor is dark chocolate, rich fudge and brownies, I do get a little toasted coconut on the finish and this flavor lingers a bit after the swallow. I dont get any hops, nor any ABV hints. There isnt a lot of complexity of flavors but what it has does fit for the objectives of meeting the flavor of an ALmond Joy candy bar.
Its a tasty rich beer that fills me up as a dessert treat on a windy and cold Saturday evening.
