Pouring a cellar temp 500 ml bottle into my snifter. Picked up at the brewery in October 2021 with a bottled on date of 9/29/2021.
The beer pours a rich dark black coffee color and no light passes through my glass.
A fizzy tan head of 1.5 cm foams up and fades very rapidly to nothing soon after the pour.
The aroma is malty and sweet and robust, all as expected from the beer description. I get milk chocolate, brown sugar, toffee and caramel. There is a little bit of booze buried in the background and no hop character that I can pick up.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with soft spacious carbonation and a smooth yet sticky mouthfeel and texture.
Flavor is sweet chocolate, caramel and toffee mixing together with hints of brown sugar too. Again no hop character here on the flavor profile. I also dont get any booze here. The beer drinks pretty easy but is honestly a little too sweet, which again, isnt surprising knowing the beer creation recipe. I dont mind this brew, but dont think I would buy again due to the sweetness that lingers after each sip.

Poured from a bottle into Side Project BBT glass.
Poured black with about three to four fingers worth of mocha colored bubbly head. It took about a minute for the foam to disappear. Smell is sweet, but not getting much else, at least not cold. As for taste, on my first sip, it was overwhelmingly sweet. I was obviously expecting sweet, but on first sip, I didn't know if I could handle the whole bottle. As it warmed, and I got accustomed to it, the taste started to open up and I could taste the chocolate more than anything else. A bit of toffee as well, but that also could be my mind thinking it should be there. It definitely turned into very drinkable. Feel is what you would expect for the style, medium and easy to drink without much aftertaste.
Overall, another nice beer from Barreled Souls. They've become one of my favorite breweries when it comes to stouts and barleywine.
