Maple syrup barrel-aged version of Big Munro has the same oak-aged aromas, the toffee and sherry notes that come from the slow oxidation that happens in all barrel aging, with hints of the sweet flavors to come. The bourbon character overall is mellow but still present due to the fact the barrel saw the bourbon first, then saw the maple syrup. It has a distinct maple candied flavor, not over the top-maple but enough that you know it is there, while still carrying the pleasant, though subdued, bourbon and oak characteristics.

Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my trusty snifter. The beer pours a dark mahogany color with almost no light passing through the glass. I also get a dense fluffy to creamy beige head of 1 cm. This foam remains as a dense edge layer and surface covering with one central recharge of rising carbonation. the surface is very active as the glass sits on my table.
Aroma is rich and sweet with toffee, brown sugar, and bourbon and vanilla. I do get some maple syrup on the nose too. No hop character and not any fusol booze notes. I think bourbon dominates the nose.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with soft almost nonexistent carbonation. there is also a fairly sticky texture that coats my lips on each sip from the glass.
Flavor is rich and malty sweet with caramel, toasted grain, brown sugar up front, bourbon and vanilla in the middle and bourbon lingers after the swallow. I think hints of maple poke through at various points. I get no hops, but there is a little warming on the swallow. This is a sweet beer, but I really like it and am enjoying sipping it over the course of about an hour.

Pours a dark ruddy brown with two fat fingers of fizzy, light-tan head that quickly settles into a wisp and crown that leaves modest lacing.
Huge toffee, caramel and vanilla in the nose. Some of the leathery and fruity Scotch Ale base shows through as well, reminiscent of Backwoods Bastard. Not sure I’d pick out any maple blind, but there may be a hint of it.
In the taste, the leathery base shows first, but with a strong grape jelly sweetness to it. The caramel and toffee from the nose is behind. There’s some warming alcohol in the finish.
Medium bodied mouthfeel with a nice fizz.
The sweetness of this one isn’t as well integrated as some of their other offerings. I suppose it’s from the maple, but it gives me an exceptionally sweet grape jelly vibe.
