This one pours a dark-ish brown color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like toffee, honey, caramelly bourbon, chocolate, and some maple.
Munro has never tasted super traditionally like a scotch ale or a wee heavy to me, just a more unique take on a barleywine, and that’s definitely the case here, in a good way. There’s a nice honey, raisin, and toffee sweetness, with some light bourbon heat, a touch of caramel, some maple, and a nice oaky hit on the back end.
This has aged nicely – I’m drinking a 2022 bottle in 2025 here. It’s silky, not that boozy, and quite drinkable, with a sweet finish.
This is definitely an underrated series that gets forgotten sometimes.

Sampling this 500 ml bottle at cellar temp and pouring into my snifter. the beer pours a rich mahogany color with minimal beige dense head foaming up quickly and then fading to pretty much nothing. Beer was bottled on 1/07/2022.
Aroma is big hits of bourbon, toffee, vanilla, maple syrup and a bit of brown sugar. no hops on the nose and only mild hints of the booziness of the beer.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with sticky texture and almost no carbonation. Very close to being a still beer.
Flavor is sweet right off the bat and carries through the sampling.
The malt carries and a good amount of toffee and bourbon mixing with some oak notes and a bit of vanilla as well. No hop notes. here the booze is some bite and then some warmth on the finish that lingers a bit after each swallow.
This is a big slightly boozy sweet beer from start to finish. I really enjoy this one and wish I had another bottle. But glad to have opened this one and shared it with my brother Curt after our day of brewery touring.
Another win from the brewery in Saco!

Poured at fridge temp into a thistle. Pours dark brown with quickly disappearing light brown head. Looks great. The barrel comes through immediately on the nose. Huge notes of bourbon. Also getting rich toffee, biscuits, a bit of maple syrup, red grapes, milk chocolate, and raisin bread. Very nice.
The taste is incredible. Sweet, but not cloying. Toffee, walnuts, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and ample bourbon. The heat is definitely there - slight burn on the way down. The sweetness does take a more dominant role as the glass empties. That might be my only complaint here - just a bit too high on the sweet meter.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and the aftertaste is sweet toffee and candy. Overall, great BA Scotch ale.

Very woody, but the more you sip, the richer and sweeter it gets. Dark fruit, caramel, vanilla, toffee, pear, bread, and a light touch with the bourbon.
