Sampling a 500 ml bottle, waxed silver, bottle on date 3/9/2022, so exactly one year ago today! Unintentionally cool cellar pick for tonight!
The beer pours into my glass and the bourbon aroma is apparent immediately.
The color is a rich, clear mahogany with some chestnut too. Several fine, lazy streams of carbonation rise to the surface, but there is no foam there. A thing beige head of

Clear dark amber with strong effervescence for the style and two fingers of tan head that quickly settle into a smaller cap that’s eventually replaced by a long-lasting thick crown.
Leather, honey, vanilla, cocoa, strawberry, blueberry and a little cherry cola in the nose. Lots of complexity to the sweetness, but still with some older-school barleywine character beneath.
The taste also showcases leather, plus some earthy bitterness, cocoa and strong alcohol burn — balanced against by honey graham crackers, vanilla and caramel. Maybe a hint of strawberry carries over, but I don’t get as much berry in the taste.
Light bodied but still very creamy, with super tight carbonation.
Another really well-made beer from these guys. This one’s definitely very hot, but that’s how I like ‘em. Sweet, but not nearly as sweet as a wheatwine could be.

This one pours a mostly clear light honey brown, with a very small, nearly non-existent head, and not lacing.
This smells like caramel, honey, vanilla, spicy Bourbon, leathery bourbon, chocolate, and black cherry.
This is my second time around with a Honey Pot variant. I like this significantly more than the Templeton Rye version, to be honest – this has a lot more barrel, with lots of spice, vanilla, leather, and even some chocolate entering the fray from the seemingly high quality Bookers barrels that were used. It’s quite sweet, as it to be expected from a 17% wheatwine, but the barrel tempers a lot of that sweetness and helps somehow keep a balance in a likely unbalanced beer.
This is medium bodied, almost velvety, with very little booziness, shockingly, for what it is.
This is absolutely vintage Barreled Souls, and why I enjoy their shtick so much.

Almost drinks a touch thin. Incredibly flavorful. The bourbon is super noticeable, but not in any way overpowering or obnoxious.
Tasting notes of honey, caramel, red grape, bourbon, white wine. Moderate heat; crazy approachable and sippable for the ABV.
