Beer was bottled 12/01/2021. been in my cellar fro about 2.5 years after a pickup at the brewery. Pouring at cellar temp into my snifter.
The beer glugs out of the bottle into my glass a dark black coffee color with no light passing through my glass. Very little fizzy tan head foams up on the pour and is gone to scattered edging on my glass. Some active foam circles fizz on the surface but do not create anything long lasting.
Aroma is some fudge and chocolate as soon as I pour the beer. Getting closer gives a bit of roast note, some bourbon sweetness and a dose of barrel note. No hop character and not boozy or fusol either. Smells like a bourbon barrel aged stout.
First sip reveals a medium body with very smooth texture and fine, gentle carbonation. Physical traits are appealing and easy drinking.
Flavor is rich and malt forward with fudge brownie, chocolate bar, and a little toffee. Bourbon shows up mid swallow with a bit of sweetness and some vanilla, there is a hint of charred wood on the finish. Again, no hop character, and not boozy, not even any warmth on the swallow.
Quite a nice blend of imperial stouts and good showcasing of bourbon barrel aging.
Glad I finally opened this 1.5L bottle, Im enjoying the beer inside quite a bit!
