I am sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle of this beer that was bottled on 01/07/2022. Picked up at the brewery in Nove 2023 and been in my cellar since then.
Im pouring into my trusty snifter.
The beer pours a rich chestnut brown color with some mahogany highlights with a creamy khaki colored head that foams up about 2 cm and fades to a sturdy edge layering that remains through the sampling.
Aroma is caramel and toffee with some raspberry jam or black cherry puree notes and a bit of peppery booze. No hop character to be found on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with soft texture and very fine rolling carbonation that barely adds to the physical feel of the beer.
Flavor is some toffee and brown sugar notes mixing with some red fruits. Cherries or raspberry similar to the nose. the beer isnt sweet really, fruity and full but not sugary. I dont get any really wooden notes or any other barrel character.
There is some warming booze on the finish, which also dries out a little.
This is a tasty beer and the red wine barrel works very nicely with the malty scotch ale. I would gladly drink another bottle of this tasty brew.

This one pours a dark-ish brown color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells like black cherry, tobacco, caramel, oak, vanilla, caramel, some light smoke, and berry.

Red wine barrels are definitely not something that I would imagine that would always work with a scotch ale, but it really does match up well here. This is awesome – with a black cherry and strawberry like fruitiness, dried, bitter, and not too sweet, with jammy red wine, caramel, smoke, leather, tobacco, a bit of vanilla, and some oak.

This is medium bodied, creamy, and not all that boozy, with a nice drinkability – although you want to drink it slowly, as it’s delicious and super unique.

This is maybe the most unique barrel aged scotch ale that I’ve ever had – the barrel choice here is quite inspired.
