Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. Bottled on 6/24/2022.
The beer pours a jet black color and doesnt allow any light to pass through the glass. A dense, but fizzy tan head foams up about .5 cm and fades to almost nothing a few minutes after the pour.
Aroma is some charred wood, molasses, a bit of fusol booze and bourbon and I also get some leather note here. The barrel character is pretty strong and doesnt seem to have imparted any sweet scents, also zero hop character on this one.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with fairly sticky mouthfeel that coats my lips on each sip. texture is leaning towards syrupy and carbonation is soft and almost non existent. Drinks like a big beer.
Flavor is similar to the nose, no hops anywhere. Some fudge, molasses, and bourbon are the bigger flavors. Some charred notes and leather come through on the finish and the beer definitely shows barrel character, and again not in a sweet way. No fusol boozy black pepper bite and surprisingly little warmth either.
I am enjoying this beer and think it checks the boxes, but it isnt in my top tier or Barreled Souls beers.

Molasses, graham crackers, chocolate syrup, vanilla and brown sugar are all front and center in this big boy.
