This one pours a super dark black color, with a very small head, and not much lacing.
This smells quite spicy in a good way, with licorice, dark chocolate, rye, spicy oak, vanilla, mint, and coffee.
There’s a lot of rye character here – it soaked up that barrel character very strongly here. It appears a black pepper, licorice, mint, and rye bread. There’s also lots of dark chocolate, some coffee, and a touch of vanilla. There’s overall very little sweetness here – it’s challenging, but in a good way in my mind.
This is medium bodied, slightly creamy, with a touch of pleasant boozy heat and spice.
I haven’t had a lot of the entries in this series, but I definitely like how no-nonsense and complex it is.

Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter at cellar temp. Label is date stamped 2 /01/2023. Aged in sagamore rye barrels for 11 months ad 22 days. ABV is 15.2 %.
the beer pours a coffee black color with dense creamy minimal beige head foaming up about 1 cm and fading quickly to a sturdy edging and not much else. Some scattered lattice when I take a sip.
Aroma is dark chocolate fudge and some spicy rye whisky notes, maybe a little vanilla and some spicy booze notes too. No hop character comes through at all on this beer.
First sip reveals a medium body and smooth texture with fine and spacious carbonation.
Flavor is dark fudge and some spicy rye and i keep getting some merlot, even though no wine barrels were used. Not boozy or hot AT ALL! no hop character either. Finish is spicy rye notes and faint hints of vanilla. The beer drinks dangerously easy to drink and my glass is empty much quicker than it probably should be. I am enjoying this barrel aged brew and its straightforward malt profile and rye notes. I would gladly open another bottle of this brew.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark black with a tiny layer of brown head. The nose is molasses, rye spice, vanilla, popcorn, and oak. Taste is fantastic. Black licorice, roasted malts, vanilla, burnt wood, dark chocolate, boozy rye, and caramelized sugar. Lovely!
