Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. Beer was bottled on 11/22/2022 and has been in my cellar for the better part of 1.5 years.
The beer pours a dark coffee color with fluffy and tan head of about 1.5 cm. This foam fades to a thin edge layer soon after the pour and this sticks around throughout the sampling.
Aroma is dark chocolate, fudge brownies, rich bourbon notes, and a little fusol note. No hint of hops on this aroma. Smells like a barrel aged imperial stout.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and very fine slightly tingly carbonation. A little bit of a coating of my palate of each sip.
Flavor is a lot of what was advertised with the nose. A good hit of dark chocolate, some toffee shows up here and fudge and brownies carry through. I also get a bit of light roasted malts here. Bourbon comes through on the finish and lingers, but its all flavor, no heat here. Hops absent too. Beer drinks pretty easy and exhibits pretty much what I would expect for a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout. Happy to drink this one!
