Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my trusty snifter. Date of bottling is 03/07/2023 and its been in my cellar since I picked it up with my stash at the brewery last fall.
The beer pours a dark cola brown and it rests slightly darker in my glass with no light passing through. A fluffy tan head of almost 3 cm foams up even with a gentle pour. The foam fades slowly to a thin edge layer and some wispy islands in the center of the beer.
Aroma on this one is some dark cocoa, a bit of brown sugar , some toasted coconut (mild), and a little toffee note. Hops are not present and the aroma and not boozy or fusol either. Pretty sneaky 12.7% ABV.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with full and smooth texture. Very fine and slightly tingly carbonation. Definitely some coating on my palate after each sip. This beer feels pretty big on the physical traits.
Flavor is some dark chocolate, brown sugar, caramel, some light toasted coconut and a little peppery booze. Not a lot of accompanying warming. the coconut is very mild and may also be some of the general fruity note that I pick up on each sip. No hop character.
this is a pretty nice and robust imperial stout. I dont get nearly as much coconut as I would like, which is often the case for me, just not an additive that is ever as present as I would like.
Solid imperial stout.
