tekstr1der is right that this beer isn't a looker. It's thin just a touch above translucent brown. Kind of reminds me of of thick brown frog pond water. It also has a few brown floaties in it.
The smell is pretty good and stood out as soon as it came out of the can. It's matly and has potent cereal grain smells. Kind of like guinea pig pellets or the flakes on Oats and More. A little bit of hoppiness but very restrained.
Flavor wise malt takes the center stage, and it has a lot of molasses notes like a hermit cookie.
The cereal flavor from the smell is also here but plays second fiddle to the malt and molasses. It has a tang to it as well like a zesty barbeque sauce. A little bit of hops too but the malt and dryness are the star of the show.
At first it wasn't my cup of tea but I'm enjoying it more overtime.
The mouth feel is very thin for a dark beer. Just a bit more than a craft lager. Although it leaves some coating on your tounge. The thickness suits the ABV but it is thin.
Overall it's good for what it is it's not what I'm looking for in a beer. Power to Barrled Souls for doing a dry adjucnts free beer though.
Edit: My can may have been bad because it had a bit of a vinegar taste.

This is a robust brown with the perfect amount of roast, no bitterness, and no unwanted sweetness. It is a darker beer that does not out stay its welcome. Yum!

Found this treat locally on tap. I'm going to start this one's BA review life going way above eventual pDev haha. It's the ideal flavors of Brown Ale I've always been seeking. She ain't no looker - tho I do kinda like the raw unfiltered brownness, there's no head to speak of in the pour. Everything else about it aligns perfectly with my tastes - slightly sweet, not overly roasted with the malt, lower hopping. It's 'down'-right delicious stuff to me.
