I split this 1.5L magnum with my brothers at our Christmas gathering. Pouring into an English Pint glass at cellar temp. the beer pours a slightly murky chestnut color with a frothy khaki colored head of 2 cm. This foam fades slowly to a sturdy surface covering that sticks around throughout my sampling.
Aroma is some toffee and some dark fruit with plum and raisin notes with a little bit of brown sugar. Not really much scent from the peppercorn.
I take the first sip and it reveals a medium body with soft rolling carbonation. Texture is smooth and not very sticky for a bigger barleywine. The beer drinks pretty easy on the physical traits.
Flavor is similar to the nose, some toffee mixing with plums again and here I do get a little peppery bite, on the finish , could be peppercorns or the booze. Never really any hop character. There is some warming in my gullet after each swallow. In general this beer is fine as a barleywine, but it isnt my favorite, nor the most impressive one from Barreled Souls IMO. glad I tried, it but wouldnt chase this down for another round.
