Sampling a cellar temp 375 ml bottle poured into my snifter. Bottled on 4/23/2024. Been in my cellar for about a year after pick up at the brewery .
the beer pours a dark mahogany with garnet highlights only a little light passes through this surprisingly dark beer. A dense khaki colored head foams up about 1cm , but fades quickly to a surface covering and some scattered lattice when I swirl or take a sip from the glass.
Aroma is malt forward with some toffee and a bit of pipe tobacco and also a big hit of charred wood and some fusol booziness. No hint of hop character on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and not much stickiness. There is very minimal, fine carbonation that gently rolls across my palate. Drinks easier than I expected on the physical traits. There is some warming booze on the finish and swallow, which also dries out quite a bit.
Flavor is similar with some toffee brown sugar sweetness up front, which rolls to some dark fruit with plums and raisins and then finishes with some black coffee (!) , charred wood and peppery bitey booze. Never any hops showing up anywhere on this beer. Another winner from Barreled Souls. Would gladly drink this again.
