On tap at Barreled Souls Brewing Company in Saco, ME.
This one pours dark-ish golden orange color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like funky strawberry, like I’d imagine strawberry wine to smell like, with lemon and oak.
These are interesting beers for Barreled Souls to release, and I’m happy they’re branching out from their usual lane of big barrel aged stouts and barleywines. This has a nice soft and lightly funky/tart strawberry vibe to this, without any of the weird off flavors that can sometimes result from using strawberries in wild ales. It’s slightly oaky, citrusy, and wine-like, with an easy going finish to it.
This is lightly tart but not overwhelmingly so, with a pretty pleasant softness on the finish.
I’m not sure how many of these sorts of beers that Barreled Souls is going to do, but I’m glad they’re trying them out.

Bottled 06.26.24, Drank from a tulip on 10.13.24
Poured from a 500 ml clear bottle and it looked even nicer after pouring - not much head but some did linger. A nice clear orange / reddish color.
Smell - distinct and sweet strawberry.
Taste - strawberry and pretty acidic.
Feel - a bit effervescent initially but once it warmed, it felt thick and almost syrupy and really nice.
Overall - for the first run at a wild ale program from Barreled Souls, a highly regarded stout, barleywine and gose house, this is a good effort at a wild ale. Definitely let it warm and not for the faint of heart. This is one of 4 of this initial style of wild ales, I will be curious to see if they do more of this style and others. Cheers!
