Sampling this 500 ml bottle at cellar temp and pouring into my snifter. Beer was bottled on 6/24/2021. Aged in Sherry barrels for 10 months and 28 days. The beer pours a dark mahogany color, almost has a black tint to it as it flows into my glass.
A dense beige colored head of 1 cm foams up , this fades to a sturdy edge layer and one large island in the center of my glass.
Aroma is malt forward and driven with toffee and molasses and some brown sugar. There is definitely a bit of sweetness to the aroma and no hop character. Booze is hidden with no fusol notes nor any black pepper or booziness.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and almost no carbonation. There is a bit of sticky coating on my palate after each sip, but otherwise the beer drinks pretty easy.
Flavor is similar to the nose with sweet malts of brown sugar, molasses and toffee mixing together. There is a little black pepper bite on the finish, but never any hop character. I get a sort of general brown liquor note, that I would call bourbon, except , never touched a bourbon barrel with this beer.
Beer is drinkable and sort of sweet , Im enjoying this one. Another win from Barreled Souls.
